Consultant
The information that I share with you will contain all of the tips, tricks, resources, and anything else that I have used and can recommend to anyone who wants to delve into the world of internet marketing. The information I share is what I have learned over the last 12 years since I’ve been online. The bulk of the information I’ve learned in the last 5 years.
How this all came about
Many of my family members and friends expressed an interest in starting a business, making money online, or getting their business online. They’ve come to me because I have been doing business online and love the entire process. I love sharing what I have learned; the resources that I have come across and seeing people succeed.
Being online is truly life changing. An entire new world opens up and you can discover the endless possibilities for your business and your life. I hope you will find the information useful and will put into practice the things you learn.
Recommendations
Occasionally I will recommend products and services that you’ll have to make a small investment in order to take full advantage of the benefits. These recommendations will be few and far between because I don’t want this list to become about selling stuff. Much of what I find is free and I will gladly pass it on to you. Feel free to forward the email and anything I recommend on to others. It can be your entire distribution list if you like. I just want as many people to know about the treasure the internet holds.
I will try not to overwhelm you with the information and will break things down in easy to understand language. I’ll provide links to the resources I tell you about and explain how you can benefit. Consider me your internet marketing coach. If you have questions about anything I’ve mentioned, feel free to ask until you are 100% clear about everything.
Internet Business Start-Up and Marketing Basics
Product or Service – This is what you want to share with the world or your little corner of it for profit. Do your research when choosing a business or if you already have a business decide how you want to market it online. I can provide guidance if you are not sure.
Domain name – This can be the name of your business or your personal name. You may end up with several. I recommend that you choose a separate domain name provider and hosting service. I’ll explain more in future emails. I currently use Namesecure.com and Godaddy.com
Hosting – This is the service you need to park your domain and house your website. There are many features and pricing levels. They monthly fee ranges from $4.99 – $100. I currently use Hostgator.com and pay about $10 per month.
Website/Blog – This is the face of your business and the place people will come for information. I prefer a blog because it is easy to maintain and customize. I use WordPress, a free blogging service. Your hosting service should have easy installation of this software and walk you step-by-step through the process. If you need help just let me know. I am available to help you set up your blog as well.
Marketing Collateral – After you have your site up you may want to get business cards, postcards, or other marketing material to let people know what you do our in the real world. All your marketing collateral should include your web address, email address, and some kind of free offer. You want people to visit your website and join your mailing list; more on that later. I use VistaPrint for all my printing needs.
Articles – This is the simplest way to begin marketing your business. People are on the internet for free information about 75% of the time. Your article will give them the info they need and make you a trusted person to go to for more information and eventually products and services. This is how you go out and get business. I currently post my articles both on my blog and on EzineArticles.com
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) - This is how people find you through the search engines. When your website or blog contains the words that people search for in Google or Yahoo search your site is what people will click on for more information.
Email List Mgmt Service – Once people get to your site you will want to capture their name and email address so you can share more information with them. The better they know and trust you the more they are likely to buy from you. I currently use iContact for my email list management service. There are many other services available online. Here is a comparison list that I found online of the many list management system, their features, and pricing.
Marketing Funnel – The marketing funnel is a multi-level system marketing using different price points. There are customers who need to try what you have for free then they will ease into giving you more money in exchange for your services. The more they know and trust you the more money they will spend with you. The marketing funnel goes from Free to Premium price points. At each level you are getting something in exchange for what you give. Here is a visual example of how the marketing funnel looks.
Payment System – When you offer your product or service there must be a way to for the customer to pay. I currently use PayPal because it’s free to set up and use, though a small percentage of the sale is subtracted during payment processing.
So there you have it; the basics of internet business and marketing. Every email will have the basic list with a brief explanation to help you remember the steps at the end of the email. Use this process for every business you start online or if you want to have an online presence.
