The Long Version

Since I am my own company it’s hard to go into the history and background from a corporate perspective. None of what I will tell you is earth shattering but it’s all true ;-) .

From the age of 10 I have been dabbling in business. My mom taught me how to bake pound cakes and one weekend I baked one and took it to an after church luncheon. It was a hit and everyone was surprised that a 10-year old baked a cake. I got orders from family and friends and charged $10 per cake. I thought I was rich! We moved and my cake business went out of business.

Since that time I’ve always been interested in having my own business. I’d read the Start-up magazine, Entrepreneur, and other small business magazines. When my daughter was about a year old I got a used IBM computer and an internet connection. That was 1997. I knew graphic design and had taken business classes in college so I used my skills to start a desktop publishing business. I love doing that kind of work and soon I was branching off into home secretarial and resume writing services.

Since the internet was still in it’s infancy I was able to learn about how it worked and joined chat rooms and played games. I loved to read so all the informational sites were heaven to me. I wanted to become a webmaster but at the time the classes were too expensive for me as a single mom, but my dreams never died. Now I can learn everything I need to know at one of a thousand websites.

I got the itch to go back to college after a few years so in 2001 I moved to a new city with my two children and enrolled in school. Three years later I graduated with an honors degree in English and Communications. I worked as an intern during that time and then got hired on full time as a technical writer. I picked up new skills and have advanced every year.

Currently I am a freelance writer, blogger, and consultant. I have two great kids and live in Georgia. I am also a motivation speaker and mentor for single moms. My other blogs are:
